To support the idea outlined here, Cisco has recently released a REST API client that can be used as another method of configuration of their popular firewall product line.
The ASA uses small plugin that is uploaded into device flash memory, much like ASDM and then activated from CLI.
This allows a client to perform certain elementary operations such as Create, Read, Update, Delete on ASA resources such as network objects or ACL.
After the right API call has been executed ASA will respond with a status code such as 201 Object Created.

The high level architecture of this model looks like this:

If you compare this style of configuration to traditional way through CLI you see that we can achieve the same things but in programmatic matter.

This model includes a VSAN (Virtual Storage Area Network) environment that runs on ASA devices.
The model has three main use cases; ASA Firewall with VSAN Traffic, VIRL Client such as GNS3 and VIRL Server with simulated Cisco ASA devices.
The Virtual Appliance Library contains many different appliances, ranging from Juniper devices to Checkpoint similar to those used in this scenario.
How this course will help you
A common task when working with Cisco ASA firewall is to configure a variety of different objects on the ASA such as ACLs, VTY access and so on
The primary method for configuring these objects is through ASDM/GUI interface where steps are provided in Wizard mode.
However there are number of times where this may not be ideal, either because it’s not available, or you need more fine grained control and flexibility over how you configure your device.
The ASA is the most modern network firewall and it requires a lot of configuration.
The best solution for ASA network security configuration is to use REST API Client plugin.
You can use this plugin to check the status of the firewall in real time or configure all parameters in just 5 minutes!
This introduction provides details on how to install and use the Cisco ASAv. As part of the ASAv architecture, this management model consists of the following:
