Masking Fundamentals is a detailed course that takes you through the history of masking, how to make selections with layer masks and brushes in Photoshop, how to paint and modify your masks using Paths, how to use blend modes to your advantage while masking and how to take advantage of Smart Objects when using multiple layers.

This course is a deep dive into all of the various ways you can create selections. We’ll explore a number of different tools and techniques, but we’ll also spend time discussing why masking is so important and what to pay attention to when using this incredibly adaptable tool.

In this course I’m going to help you demystify the subject by breaking down everything into manageable chunks. Masking is one of those features that can save you a lot of time when used effectively, but leaves you frustrated if not understood.

Masking Levels 1 & 2 – Kristina Sherk MASKING FUNDAMENTALS This is the first video course on masking in Photoshop. What is unique about it are the tips, tricks and techniques that I have developed over a decade of using masks in my work as an advertising creative director. In this course you will learn to make selections without the aid of tools like the lasso or magic wand tool and then modify them by painting with various adjustment brushes, color correctors and filters. You will also learn how to create custom shapes using paths and/or selections, how to add contrast while protecting skin tones and so much more. I cover all aspects of masking in great detail including but not limited to:  Why masking is important The various type of masks available The right way to use channels How to make perfect selections Why clipping masks are powerful skills for when you need to modify the inside of a selection or apply an effect only in one area (not recommended for beginners). How to save time with layer masks vs channel masks or clipping masks Working with adjustment layers Some simple 5 step process for creating digital faces from photos
