The Obligatory Bio:
Codie Sanchez has been a recovering journalist who has shifted from institutional investor into cannabis advisor and investor and is now the Founder of Contrarian Thinking, and Cofounder of Unconventional Acquisitions. She is passionate about helping people think critically and generating cashflow in a different way, while distributing to what we would call “sweaty & boring” small companies.

In her professional life she’s been in the area of finance and marketing and has found unconventional strategies to invest. She’s always balanced her career by donating her time to non-profit organizations that help women as well as veterans and Latinos.
The company was acquired by Vanguard ETFs in 2008 ($870B) to expand their ETF business. She was there for a long time before she moved towards Goldman Sachs Alternatives group. After that, she was an SVP of SSGA ($580B) as part of institution-based investing and was tasked with managing the region of $3 billion before then moving in to First Trust ($63B) to create the LatAm investment company from scratch. Codie has led teams across the globe across every asset class, and has negotiated JV’s, creating products in addition to market entrance across Americas.
She is a board member of The Arcview Group, Magma Partners Venture Fund, Texans for Veterans and an active member of the free market think tank and AAI’s Enterprise Club. She is also on the policy committee of the Marijuana Policy Project. She invests in women-led companies by way of Plum Alley WAVE as well as The Vinetta Project and cannabis-related firms via Cresco Capital Partners. She graduated with a diploma in PR and Journalism at The ASU’s Honors School, MBA from Georgetown University and PHD from Fundacao Gestulio Vargas. She received an award called the JFK Award for Print Journalism as well as the Howard Buffett Award.

I’ve always been fascinated by investment that isn’t conventional, even when I’ve been on the standard method of working at Goldman Sachs, going to Georgetown traveling many thousands of miles in order to meet thousands of investors searching for money. In the past, I’ve also been able to raise and invest a significant amount of money in doing it. I’m not done with my journey, and I’m by I’m not pretending to be a guru. just a woman trying to understand the world.
But, before all this…
I was born into immigrants and I was not educated about finances. I was actually a novice in the journalistic field in the United States, writing and living across the border between Mexico and America of the real battle that many of us have never heard of.
However, the article I wrote altered everything. we were awarded the JFK award as well as grant money by the Buffet Foundation, accolades that seemed huge but, this story was heartbreaking for me. I realized that I was able to write about the travesty, but I could not change it.
Then I stopped writing stories and focused on how to write the stories… What do you think?
Understanding money results in power and one of the strongest forces I have ever heard of: Commerce, Capitalism and (in my current opinion) Cannabis as forces for economic, social and regulatory change. My journey has taken me to appear present on CNBC, Fox, CNN and writing for Forbes, Entrepreneur, Fortune and even give speeches in front of hundreds of thousands.
NOW WE APPLY THESE PRINCIPLES I LEARNED TO YOUR LIFE, YOUR STARTUP OR YOUR PORTFOLIO…
If you’ve ever felt in a position to write a new story stuck in a position you hate, or in an costly a house, stressed about your body or mind, my goal is to support to ease your stress…

The 3 Things I Wish I Knew Back Then
I’m not very good at a lot of things (like keeping my thoughts to myself) However, I’m adept at thinking outside the box and developing startups, raising funds and identifying market dislocations and figuring out how to position myself or your business to succeed. I say that my success is due to these three pillars.. I’ll be sharing them with you.
1) What If It Was Easy?
The world is not easy as it is said. It’s hard to be in a relationship. That’s why people say it’s a job it’s not a lot of fun. But I believe they’re incorrect. If you are aligned with your abilities or skills with the needs of the marketplace or the requirements of a different person, things become more straightforward than any person has ever claimed to be able to do. That’s why I use this reframe in my head. If you think it’s simple to acquire, then you can follow that as a reference to figure out how to obtain what you desire.
2) Always Ask.
If you’re interested then ask for it. What’s the most dangerous possible thing that could occur. They’ll say no and you go towards your next goal.
3) Think Like the Ocean. (Passive Income Streams)
In the present, we’ve become too dependent on one source of income. It is time to be like oceans. The ocean is a source of strength by combining the rivulets of income and cash streams that flow to streams of income. By the accumulation of many sources is the ocean growing. This is my strategy. to become the creator of your life. But working for a firm not to have an axe of money over your head however, you have the freedom to choose to. If the company you work for is your own or a different one but we all don’t have to be entrepreneurs. It’s possible to be multi-faceted.
