Get ready, here’s a an overview of the history behind “performance marketing.”
2009 was the year that Eric Co-founder of DTC came into contact with Jeff Shannon (co-founder of DTC and Pilothouse), Kyle Hitchcox (co-founder of Pilothouse) and Kyle Hitchcox (co-founder Pilothouse) along with Andrew Stern (COO of Pilothouse) joined forces at an affiliate marketing company that was growing rapidly. company located in Victoria BC.
The company promoted affiliate-related products using a pay-per- conversion basis and allowed us almost complete freedom to boost conversions by buying digital media for in the event that we earned more revenue driving conversions than what we paid for the traffic needed to purchase them.
The agencies of the time were primarily focused on charging a percentage of your advertising spend however, as performance marketers, we couldn’t create anything until the sales began to flow, and we began to become attracted to the entire funnel in a short time.
This idea in “performance marketing” is now the basis of Pilothouse’s operations and the subject of our podcast and newsletter however, at the time the majority of advertising expenditure was still made using traditional “spray and hope” method that the large agencies used as a relic that was popular during earlier Mad Men days.
Jeff, Kyle, Dave Steele (CEO of Pilothouse) and Andrew were able to transform the foundational principle they had learned from their work as performance marketers into a brand new kind of e-commerce growth partner to create a brand new type of model . Pilothouse began to be created.
After a seven-year experience in affiliate marketing, which included operating on every traffic platform in 2017, Eric Dyck co-founded a digital marketing training business as well as a podcast.
